South African Adventurer to inspire the youth Well known South African adventurer Riaan Manser will be making some appearances at the Volvo Ocean Race over the next few days, to chat to youngsters who are involved in the Volvo Ocean Race Development Programme. Riaan was appointed 2 months ago as an ambassador for the Cape Town Stopover, shortly after returning from his most recent adventure, a circumnavigation of Alaska’s treacherous coastline by kayak, with Dan Skinstad. Riaan is a published author, with 2 books. The first documents his circumnavigation of the African continent by bicycle, and the 2nd tells of his adventures whilst paddling a kayak solo around the Island of Madagascar. At 12h15pm on Friday December 2nd, Riaan will chat to the children of the ‘Volvo youth development programme’ at the Volvo pavilion on Jetty1, after which he will join them sailing on the ‘Try-Sailing’ academy’s fleet of 5.6 metre Ludic dinghies, each carrying on their mainsails a cartoon image of the Academy's mascot, 'Wisdom' the Albatross chick. The sailing commences at 2 pm. On Saturday, between 11am and 1pm, the ‘Keep the Oceans Clean’ project will be doing a beach clean –up at Moullie Point Beach, and Riaan will be joining the group of volunteers to assist with the clean-up, after which he will address about 180 scouts with his message of inspiration.
