Excitement at the V & A Waterfront is starting to increase as the first signs of the fast-approaching Volvo Ocean Race start to appear. The crates have been shipped in, the foundations are down, and the race village of the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race is starting to take shape. Jetty 1 will be the prime area, and the quayside which is usually filled with tug-boat containers and crews has been cleared for the travelling crews who'se job for the next 9 months will be to erect the race village in each port. The teams are working to tight deadlines as the fleets approach Cape Town, with the race village set to open on November 25th.

Jeff Ayliffe had an exclusive chat to PUMA Ocean Racing's skipper Ken Read today. When they last chatted, Ken was hoping to be back for the Volvo Ocean race 2011, but they had not confirmed. The team are are not only back, but have experienced a transatlantic victory aboard the new boat 'Mar Mostro', and Read told Jeff he was delighted to preparing for Alicante and the start of Volvo Ocean race action
